چکیده

The present study examined the equivalence of the computer administered version of the Raven Standard Progressive Matrices (RSPM) with the standard paper-and-pencil administered version of the RSPM. In addition, the effects of state and trait anxiety as well as computer anxiety were investigated. Fifty undergraduate volunteers were administered the RSPM twice under one of four conditions: computer–computer, standard–standard, computer–standard, or standard–computer. No significant differences were found between mean scores and standard deviations across administrations or formats. Rank-order correlations revealed similar ranking across formats. Tentative support for the equivalence of the computerized version of the RSPM was found. Analyses revealed no significant differences in anxiety across formats and no significant correlations between anxiety and RSPM performance. Explanations and implications for further research are discussed. 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Exploring the Possibility to Use Set I of Advanced Progressive Matrices as a Short Form of Standard Progressive Matrices

The present paper aimed to explore the possibility of using the Advanced Progressive Matrices ‒ Set I (APM-Set I) as a short form of Standard Progressive Matrices for sound assessment of general mental ability in a short time frame. Confirmatory factor analysis for dichotomous data attested the unidimensionality of APM-Set I, and then the Rasch model was applied. All items showed an acceptable ...

On the correlation between working memory capacity and performance on intelligence tests

A ubiquitous finding in intelligence research is that there is a substantial correlation between working memory (WM) capacity and general (fluid) intelligence tests (e.g., [Intelligence 14 (1990) 389]). The standard explanation for this correlation is as follows: People with high WM capacity can keep in memory many elements and are therefore good at storing subresults needed within an item. We ...

Developmental changes in real life decision making: performance on a gambling task previously shown to depend on the ventromedial prefrontal cortex.

Patients with bilateral lesions of the ventromedial prefrontal cortex, when performing gambling tasks modeling real-life decision-making, opt for choices that yield high immediate gains in spite of higher future losses. Under the hypothesis that the prefrontal cortex is the last brain region to mature, it was examined whether young children would show a similar preference for immediate prospect...
